Safety Improvement Funding for Pike County

traffic safety

Earlier this week, Sen. Lisa Baker and I announced that Milford Borough will receive $307,857 to make walking safer and more convenient for residents and visitors. The project will install rectangular rapid flashing beacons and re-stripe crosswalks at 11 key intersections along Harford Street. In addition, traffic signals at the Broad Street and Harford Street intersection will be retimed to include an all-pedestrian phase, giving people a safer way to cross in every direction.

The state funding is through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) grant program to improve traffic safety and accessibility at key intersections.

Investing in pedestrian infrastructure — like rapid flashing beacons, refreshed crosswalks and enhanced signal timing — is a critical step toward safer streets in Milford. With this award, we’re taking meaningful action to protect residents, encourage walking and strengthen our downtown’s accessibility and vitality.

The ARLE program funds projects that enhance safety, improve mobility and reduce congestion at signalized intersections. Funding is generated through fines collected from red-light violations in Philadelphia and reinvested statewide in traffic safety improvements.
