Two people were reportedly injured in a single vehicle crash in Blooming Grove Township yesterday morning. According to State Police, the driver, a 26-year-old woman from Delaware, and passenger, a 26-year-old man from Philadelphia, were traveling on SR402 near the intersection with Hilltop Lane at around 7:30am, when they failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway. Officials say the vehicle travelled off the right side of the roadway, struck one tree, continued north, then struck another tree before coming to a final rest.

Pike Medical Foundation receives $500K towards first local hospital
Without a single hospital or urgent care center in Pike County, residents have to travel to New York or New Jersey to receive medical care.The county commissioners' office announced Thursday that the Pike Medical Foundation received $500,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) towards medical equipment for a new hospital.Commissioner Matthew Osterberg said Pike is the only county in Pennsylvania that has never had a hospital.

1.6-mile trail linking Hawley with Lake Wallenpaupack dedicated
After decades of persistence by a group of volunteers passionate about trails and how they can benefit the Wayne and Pike County area, the 1.6-mile Gorge Trail connecting Lake Wallenpaupack’s trail with Hawley and beyond was dedicated July 24. Leading the effort were Grant Genzlinger and Molly Rodgers of Lackawaxen River Trails, a grassroots organization that recently achieved full nonprofit status.
Lyme disease found in nearly 40% of ticks during large Pennsylvania study
Nearly 40% of deer ticks tested positive for Lyme disease in the largest countywide study of the parasitic arachnids ever conducted in Pennsylvania.Among 1,000 deer ticks tested, 38.77% were found to be carrying the pathogen, according to a report released Wednesday by Pike County’s Tick Borne Diseases Task Force. They also are known as blacklegged ticks.Batonellosis, which causes a range of diseases in humans, including cat scratch fever, trench fever and Carrion’s disease, was the second most found pathogen, carried by 18.52% of the ticks.
